What is there to see and do in Monségur?

Monségur is a bastide dating from the 13th Century when it was founded by Eleanor of Provence, who became Queen of England after marrying King Henry III in 1236.

On the central square, many of the buildings still have the original  arched arcade and in the centre of the square is a covered market. Mediaeval buildings can be found throughout this town, such as the gothic style Notre-Dame church which was built in the 13th century or the 15th century Governor’s tower. As you wander around this pretty village, you can admire traditional half-timbered houses, along with impressive views of the Dropt valley and surrounding countryside.

What events take place in Monségur?

Every Tuesday and Friday morning, a local market selling fresh produce takes place on the central square.

For the first time this year in April, an event called “Vis ton Vin!” will take place in the heart of the town for a whole weekend. A range of events, conferences, performances and tastings all around wine will be organised.

An annual jazz festival, Les 24 heures du Swing, is also held in Monségur.

What is there to see and do in Gironde?

Gironde is the largest of France's 96 metropolitan departments, and home to world famous 'claret', or Bordeaux wine. Think St Emilion, Pomerol, and the entire 1855 classification of Medoc - Margaux, Paulliac, Ste Estephe (and Haut Brion at Graves)... The chateaux of Lafitte-Rothschild and more.

Then the whites of Sauternes, Barsac; and the Cotes Bordelais, Entre Deux Mers...

The Gironde is bounded to the west by the Atlantic coast, with 270 kms of accessible, clean and often quiet white sand beach. Some say that Lacanau is the surfing capital of Europe. A seagull overhead, a scent of pine in the air, a dozen oysters in hand…what are you waiting for?

Gironde is packed with must-see places to visit, the city of Bordeaux (68 km) being one of them. It is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and home to stunning architecture, excellent museums and wonderful restaurants! Arcachon (134 km) and its surrounding areas, including the Dune de Pyla (134 km) and the Cap Ferret (155 km), are also very impressive and highly recommended places to visit.

Nearer to Monségur, La Réole (15 km) is well worth a visit, as is the Abbaye de Saint-Ferme (6 km) and the picturesque village of Eymet (29 km).

Our annual jazz festival in the summer!

What are the local market trends in Monségur? Are there many properties on the market? Is the local area increasingly popular?

The region is very popular with its villages full of character, bastides and stunning landscapes. The region has always been quite popular. This is the town where Beaux Villages opened its first agency so we think it is very special. We have seen a real increase in the number of people looking to buy here since we started in 2008.
