The 14th-century Pont Valentré crossing the river Lot at Cahors

As you might imagine, the Lot is dominated by the river of that name. As one winds further inland, so the valley sides become ever steeper, more gorge-like, and dramatic - great sport for adrenaline junkies, whilst those of a quieter persuasion look on in amusement with a locally produced delicacy and a glass of nut liqueur or two....

The tourist towns of Rocamadour and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie are regularly voted national favourites by local and visitors alike.
The capital of the Lot is Cahors, which has an ancient old quarter with many places to eat. Figeac and Gourdon, to the the north east are vibrant larger towns if you are looking to buy a property not too far off the beaten track.

The Lot is rightly proud of its heritage, or Patrimoine, boasting over 1000 sites of note or merit.
