What's in a name?

I have recently acquired a split personality. Having been known as Julie for the past 50-odd years, people are suddenly reinventing me.

It started with a business dinner in Paris. I sat next to a most charming man (who I’ve worked with for 7 years), we discussed how the property market is, how we work together and what the future possibilities might be. At the end of the evening he wished me a good ‘fin du soirée’ and called me Sylvie. I’ve never felt like a Sylvie, but I tried it on, it felt OK so I let it go.

A week later in London at an awards dinner, we sat with some charming international architects who told witty, naughty stories either side of winning a prestigious gong for their work. A couple of days later my colleague received an email thanking him for his company and saying how much they’d enjoyed meeting Rose. Meaning me. Now Rose was my mother’s maiden name so I could take that and run with it. But how did they know??

Later that week, on our way back to the airport, our chirpy cabbie announced that there is a new app called mytaxi. As an introductory offer you download the app, register and get your first ride (up to £15) free. Your driver gets paid anyway so everyone’s happy.
My 4G was playing up so the download was whirring away as the miles went by. ‘Have you got it,’ said the cabbie? ‘Once you’ve added your debit card I’ll be able to see you on the system.’ Finally it loaded, I added my details. ‘We’re nearly at the station, have you got the confirmation,’ he said. I clicked register and Voila! ‘I can see you!, he said…’but you don’t look like a Mustapha.’

Enough, now. That’ll do. Next time I venture outside my local circle I’m wearing a name badge. You’ll see me coming, I’m Sylvie-Rose.

At the above mentioned awards ceremony, we were delighted to win Best Estate Agency Website in France for the second year running. Click here to search for properties. And if you have a property for sale go straight to this page, give us a few details and help yourself to some of our world-class marketing.
