There's something about Eymet

What is there possibly not to like about the quaint, picturesque bastide town of Eymet? Located in the glorious Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France, it is notable as a popular location amongst British expatriates, who account for a significant percentage of the local population. Unlike many of the towns in this area it boasts activities throughout the year, which is why we were attracted to it when we moved from the Cote d’Azur in 2012, with absolutely no regrets!

For us it offered everything on our ‘wish list' i.e. pleasant climate, rural surroundings with plenty of space and beautiful countryside, but at the same time plenty to keep us busy, and property at affordable prices. Bergerac airport has all year round good links to the UK at extremely reasonable prices (if you think ahead) and the beautiful City of Bordeaux only a 1 ½ hour drive, whilst the coast only a 2 hour drive.

There is good schooling for those taking the leap with children (many positive stories of families moving here with non-French speaking children who have adapted well), numerous clubs, courses and societies available to Europeans in the area for all ages, including golf, choirs, dog-walking, hiking, skittles, quizzes, green-bowling, furniture restoration, photography, Zumba, yoga, Pilates. The list just goes on and on.

Eymet has a lively market every Thursday morning and in July and August it holds evening markets on Tuesdays and “Soirées Gastronomiques” on Thursday nights, set in the medieval grounds of the bastide with a fabulous ambience where all nationalities mingle together to enjoy good food, wine and dancing. Every year on the 15th August there is a wine and oyster festival in Eymet’s main square. Eymet is very well served for restaurants and cafés and as it sits on the edge of the river Dropt it offers some lovely spots for a picnic too.

In a nutshell a delightful place to live.
