Diary of a self-build: Making the Decision

After many happy years living in a 13th Century village house we made the decision to sell up and start a fresh adventure. Time of life and generational family considerations, meant that more time spent traveling was on our horizon.

Much as we have loved our home, as a ‘lock up and leave’ it had become a little difficult. And so it came to a long and involved conversation about ‘the what and the where’.

The ‘where’ might have been Spain, France, or the UK to provide a hub to visit Australia, UK, and Asia - and to spend more down-time in France and Spain.

So we bought a building plot 500m from our village home, with views over rolling Dordogne countryside.

Next time: finding the plot and next steps.
