...Hens to peck at your household waste!

If you thought that your local council had thought of everything to reduce the mountains of household waste - you were wrong! We have all been proposed recycling bins, different coloured bin bags and compost bins, but in the Gers a new idea has just been hatched, following in the footsteps of a few other departments.

Trigone, the local waste management company will be launching an experiment in the next few months to give three families per area two Gascony hens each. The plan is to gauge how much their family waste will be reduced over a few months if they are given scraps to eat in the yard.

This initiative has a double effect. The Gascony Hen, which is famous for having been the main ingredient in Henri IV’s famous Poule au Pot, was in danger of extinction in the ’80s and, if successful, this project will enable more families to receive help from Trigone to adopt their own hens.
