This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Eymet will be hosting the Congrès des Maires Ruraux. A national event expected to bring together up to 2,000 rural mayors from across France.

Among those confirmed to attend are French government ministers Caroline Cayeux, Agnès Firmin Le Bod and Secretary of State, Dominique Faure. The president of La Poste group will also be there. We will have to wait and see whether the Prime Minister or the President will drop-by!

The event will cover all sorts of topics relevant to rural communities with the aim of creating a national 5 year plan. The post-covid migration of people from France's cities to the countryside is likely to be a talking point.

Our Eymet shop team have already reported a 5G mast being erected in the local park and a security presence around the town. During the event the centre of Eymet will be closed to cars, but our shop will still be open as normal on Friday. If you're planning to visit Eymet during the conference don't forget to bring ID as there will likely be security checkpoints to enter the town centre.
