The South West of France has long been a perennial favourite with overseas buyers including the Brits, Dutch, Belgians and Germans to name a few. Many have second homes here, and many more have made the move and call the region home!

It’s not hard to see why, with its beautiful scenery, a better quality of life, and not to mention a huge range of stunning homes at affordable prices.

This year we have seen a surge in interest from US buyers. The number of Americans visiting our website in the last 6 months is up 191% compared to the same period last year, and this has translated into a steady increase in enquiries and sales to US buyers.

One reason for this surge is the current strength of the dollar against the euro making European and French countryside properties even more attractively priced to US buyers.

There is also increasing awareness of the accessibility and affordability of the whole of South West France amongst US buyers, who perhaps would have in the past focused their search on tourist hotspots such as Sarlat, Paris or Provence.

Harvey and Steve moved from Portland, Oregon to Tournon D’Agenais in the Lot-et-Garonne last year.

‘We had been visiting the South West of France for over 30 years and decided it was the right time to make the move and live the dream.

We didn’t know the Lot-et-Garonne before buying our home here, but the house was exactly what we were looking for and in a nice village community. We were up for a new adventure!

Once we arrived, we realised the area was even more beautiful than we had thought! There are just so many lovely pockets of France and we are still discovering new ones.’
