Countdown to the Paris Olympic Games 2024

As you’re reading this, chances are you've been thinking about working in the French real estate industry for a while now and your curiosity can no longer be contained.

And, that’s a good start; curiosity may well have killed the cat, but when you work in this sector, it’s a lifeline!

Allow me to help you decide whether working as an Independent Property Consultant with Beaux Villages Immobilier will be the right job for you.

Well, for a start, you have the curiosity required and you’ll certainly need plenty of that, because you’ll need to keep your eyes constantly peeled and ears open to spot business opportunities in your area. You need to know what properties are available, or may be coming available, on the market and, most likely, you will need to do a fair amount of detective work to find out who to contact and how, so that you can get that property onto your own portfolio. If you’re reluctant to open up conversations with new people to introduce yourself, the BVI brand and the top quality service you provide, you may find this job a little daunting. If you’re sociable and positive…keep reading!

How much do you enjoy working with other people? Working independently means you'll be running your own business, which might imply you’ll be on your own a lot of the time. It’s true, a good deal of your time will see you out in your car or waiting for people to arrive at appointments or you'll be working away in front of your computer, but you need never feel alone. At BVI, we work collaboratively, in teams. You are always welcome to work in any of our offices and you will soon learn that your local colleagues, as well as those across the wider business, are incredibly supportive - and you will make friends!

Talking of people - how much experience do you have in serving a wide ranging client base? BVI is an international estate agency; we work with clients in France, as well as from all corners of the globe. You will be handling the needs of a hugely diverse client base; it’s not always easy, it’s usually good fun, it’s certainly interesting and, ultimately, it is rewarding. You’ll need to have plenty of empathy, patience and understanding because you’re going to be dealing with people whose culture you may not be so familiar with and you’ll be developing important relationships with people who may not speak your own native language.

Speaking of languages, how’s your French? You’re considering joining a French business, working in France, with lots of French documentation (the infamous French bureaucracy) and you will be working with French people, so being able to speak fluent French would be a huge advantage for you. However, if your spoken French is still in its early stages, this role will provide an opportunity to finally improve your confidence and acquire new skills in communicating with French buyers and vendors. Not only will this help you in your everyday life, but it will also mean you have the skills to help build your income.

And, what about the marketplace? Working as an Independent Property Consultant is highly rewarding; you get to visit beautiful properties, meet fascinating people from across the world, work with our wonderful teams and you will learn a new profession. However, the job is complex and challenging; more so than you may have imagined. Of course, we work in a highly competitive market, so you need to be on your game. Prospecting for new business is key and network, network, network! You have friends, they have friends and their friends have friends. They all need to know who you are and what you do so they can refer potential clients and vendors to you. They will do this if you prove yourself to be a competent, professional and friendly person, somebody to be trusted to do a job well and to always have their clients’ best interests at heart.

Do you have the right experience? Well, our most successful property consultants have previously held very diverse careers, including Actors, Artisans, Teachers, Civil Servants and anything in between. Certainly, those who have previously worked in a sales or commercial environment tend to get off the blocks quicker than others as they already understand the concept of a sales cycle and how to manage client relationships properly. However, our training is superb - if you have the basic building blocks, those personality traits that we have already talked about, the BVI training team can teach you the techniques and provide you with a great toolkit and you will have plenty of support right from the start to ensure that your new business venture is a huge success.
