We all remember as children saying “there’s nothing to do here mum”. There is absolutely no foundation for that statement in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Whether your requirement is cultural, gastronomic, sporting, artistic, self indulgent, or simply lazy, just check out some of the possibilities here.
Mount Canigou commands the horizon wherever you are in the region and offers itself up for numerous activities from walking, quad biking, and guided tours. The mountain has a covering of snow for a large part of the year and so you may need to wrap up!

France has a penchant for music festivals and the summer months provide a variety of musical events covering the musical spectrum. The International Folk Festival in Amelie les Bains will have everyone dancing in the street.

In Palau del Vidre is the International Glass Festival from 29th July to August 2nd. Glass makers from across the world gather to display their skills and the town is alive with music.
While here it’s possible for those with equestrian skills to swim their horse in the river
Feeling in need of hot spring therapy? Then this area is famous since the roman times for providing the healing qualities found from the earths natural hot springs. Visit Le Boulou, Amelie-les-Bains, Vernet -les-Bains as 3 examples.

In Le Boulou there is TeleSkiing at one of its two lakes and at the lac de Villeneuve de la Raho its time to be lazy, sit down at one of several lakeside restaurants, bars and bistros, and eat and drink in the atmosphere.

Of course not forgetting the miles and miles of sandy beaches. Suntan lotion and a good book!

This is just the start of ‘What we did on our holidays” Look forward to more next time. There is never a dull moment in the Pyrenees Orientales!
