The picturesque region of Gers is on track for some extra publicity shortly! This land of plenty, famed for its agricultural richness, sunflowers, vineyards and gastronomy, is getting a rare visitor. The Olympic torch is wending its way through much of France and will travel through the natural beauty of this department. Through green rolling hills, mediaeval villages and historic towns it can be sure of a warm welcome as local inhabitants and visitors meet on the streets to cheer it on its way. There is really no better symbolism of the harmony of diverse cultures coming together for a shared celebration of athleticism. Throughout May, June and July thousands of people will have the opportunity to see the torch pass by on its way to Paris for the start of the games on 26th August.
