Two finalists in South West France in the running for ‘France’s favourite village’
This year's annual competition to name ‘France’s best loved village’ has two finalists from South West France: Auvillar in the Tarn et Garonne, and Domme in the Dordogne.The competition is one of the most popular annual events on French television attracting around 2 million viewers. The 14 finalist villages have now been picked and you can vote until the 25th March. The winning village will be announced on TV in the summer.
Auvillar, Occitanie
Perched on top of a hill between Agen and Toulouse, Auvillar has stunning views over the Garonne river valley. The village is made up of beautiful brick, stone and half timbered buildings with a lovely arcade-lined main square.The village also has a sweet local museum and a wonderful weekly farmers market. Domme, Nouvelle Aquitaine
Another wonderful hilltop bastide village, Domme has amazing views over the Dordogne river. In addition to well preserved fortifications, the village is also known for its impressive caves with stalagmites and stalactites. It sits in the heart of the perigord region, famous all over the world for its gastronomical delights.
