The capital of Occitainie, Toulouse, is the 4th largest city in France and a great place to live. Situated deep in the South West, it has a warm climate, similar to the Mediterranean, and a relaxed southern city vibe. Whether you are in the city or within easy striking distance this is a hotspot for shopping, a stimulating place to call home and, with its own airport, it’s a hub for European travel.

The city is a centre of culture, business and innovation, with numerous museums, a dynamic arts scene, and one of the oldest universities in Europe. It’s  also a major world centre in the aeronautics and space industry, with Airbus having chosen to call it home.

It has beautiful period architecture and is often nicknamed ‘The Pink City’. You can see why. Many of the buildings have been constructed out of the local brick that lends the town a gentle glow.

Take your time to explore - it is a lovely city to discover on foot. Always worth a stroll is the stately square of the Capitole which is flanked by elegant arcades and cafes, and the characterful neighbourhoods of Saint Etienne, Les Carmes and Saint Cyprien. Our Insider Tip? An underdiscovered part of the city is the stunning Japanese Garden which has been given the prestigious ‘Remarkable Gardens Of France’ label’. Want this on your doorstep? We are marketing this property just around the corner from the park. It would make a great Monday-Friday home, an investment or student rental property.

Of course you don’t have to live slap bang in the middle of the city to enjoy its perks. There are some wonderful areas all around this region that have the countryside, the coast and the mountains within easy reach but with access to the city when you fancy a change.

Our Limoux office sits perfectly situated between Toulouse and the Mediterranean in the foothills of the Pyrénnées. As well as the stunning countryside, this is home to the oldest sparkling wine producing area in the world and the fairytale walled city of Carcassonne. We’re currently marketing this 3 bedroom villa which is only a few minutes’ drive from Carcassonne and has panoramic views..

Other popular areas to consider include the rolling hills around the stunning medieval hill-top village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, and the charming vineyards of the Gaillac region. If you’re looking for a culture fix, these areas are also close to the historic town of Albi. Our office in nearby Les Cabannes is currently marketing this stunning farmhouse with guest cottage in the Tarn countryside.

If you are looking to buy or sell in Toulouse city centre or the surrounding region we would love to talk. Get in touch with our local teams - find their contact details here
