Buy now? Buy later?

Julie Savill // Friday, 16 August 2019

The Property Guides company has issued some great advice for those who have their heart set on a place in France.  Here's how to deal with a fluctuating exchange rate.

What’s happened to the pound!? Well, we know why the pound has weakened, the more important question is what we should do about it! Spanish home owner and property writer Richard Way explains why buyers shouldn’t wait for the pound to recover, but how to protect themselves from future losses.

Has the weak pound dampened your enthusiasm to buy abroad? Has it perhaps made you re-consider whether to do it at all? Here are seven reasons you shouldn’t let the exchange rate put you off realising your dream of overseas home-ownership.

You may wait a long time
After the global financial crisis the pound fell from being worth over 2.10 US dollars. It never recovered. After the Brexit referendum the pound fell around 20% from being worth near €1.50. It has never recovered. Today’s exchange rates could potentially settle in for years to come. While there is uncertainty surrounding Brexit, analysts believe there is little chance the exchange rate will swing back in favour of the pound. And even after the UK’s scheduled departure from the EU at the end of October, who can say if or when it will begin to recover against the euro and dollar?

The 5G race is on!

Mel Aldous // Tuesday, 13 August 2019

Fast forward.

We come to France for a slower pace of life but we still like our internet to be super-speedy! Things are starting to move on that front as the country starts to gear up for 5G.

Procedures have officially been launched for allocating 5G frequencies to telecom operators, hoping for a first commercial roll-out in a few major French cities by the end of 2020 and coverage of two thirds of the population by 2026.

Beach Life in the Country!

Nicky Charles // Friday, 09 August 2019

Go on and take a dip!

Coast or country? If that’s a choice that you just can’t make, we might just have a solution. Ditch the seaside scene in favour of lakeside life.

Did you know that there are many supervised swimming lakes with white sandy beaches and plenty of activities to entertain the kids all over the south west of France. More often than not, they are not overcrowded and have ample parking too.

Locally to us in the Tarn-et-Garonne and Lot we are fortunate to have Montcuq Lake, Montaigu Plage and Rikiki at Fauroux as well as a full-on beach on the river Lot at Cahors complete with coconut umbrellas, beach bar and sun loungers!!!

To see some of our properties in easy reach of the above mentioned natural swimming spots please take a look here.

Nérac: more than meets the eye.

Angie Turner // Wednesday, 07 August 2019

If you’re currently looking for your dream property in the Dordogne or if you have started looking in the Lot-et-Garonne, have you considered going a little further South to Nérac, my home town? You’ll be amazed what good value the property is here in this beautiful area!

Whether you’re looking for a holiday home or a full-time family home, you will be enchanted by the number of attractions in and around Nérac. There is the wonderful Chateau-Museum Henri IV, the Church Saint-Nicolas de Nérac, the famous Moulin des Tours and its Roman bridge, the lovely Parc de la Garenne as well as leisure attractions like Lud’O Parc water park, the little tourist train Albret, boating on the River Baise or nearby golf courses. Nérac is also the home to the composer Louis Raffy and former Arsenal footballer Marouane Chamakh.
